Job Description

Could you lead the commercial thinking that takes renewable energy projects from development to Financial Close?

We’re looking for a Commercial Manager to join Elgin. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, the Commercial Manager will lead commercial workstreams across Elgin's renewable energy portfolio, supporting projects from early-stage development through to Financial Close.

The role is responsible for developing commercial strategies, preparing investment cases, coordinating cross-functional inputs and ensuring projects achieve commercially robust outcomes.

Working collaboratively with the PPA Manager and other internal stakeholders, the Commercial Manager will support the delivery of government support schemes, route-to-market strategies and broader commercial initiatives across the business.

 What you will do:
  • Lead commercial workstreams across Elgin's renewable energy portfolio from project development through to Financial Close.
  • Develop commercial strategies to maximise value across solar, storage and hybrid projects in the UK, Ireland and Italy.
  • Lead the commercial workstream for government support schemes including UK CfD, Irish RESS, Capacity Markets, MACSE and future market mechanisms.
  • Prepare commercial business cases, ELT papers, Investment Committee papers and Board approvals.
  • Coordinate the commercial inputs required from Development, Finance, Procurement, Engineering, Construction, Legal and Transactions to support investment decisions.
  • Assess project economics, challenge financial modelling assumptions and undertake commercial sensitivity analysis in collaboration with the Finance and Modelling teams.
  • Develop and assess project route-to-market strategies, working alongside the PPA Manager during commercial negotiations and contract execution where appropriate.
  • Lead commercial evaluation of strategic opportunities including new markets, emerging revenue structures, acquisitions and portfolio optimisation initiatives.
  • Maintain constant engagement with internal stakeholders to ensure commercial risks and opportunities are identified throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor power markets, government policy, competitor activity and regulatory developments to provide recommendations on commercial strategy.
  • Support lender due diligence and financing processes to ensure commercial structures remain bankable.
  • Develop innovative commercial structures and continuously improve Elgin's commercial strategy, governance and investment processes.

Your profile

What you will need:
  • Significant experience in renewable energy, utilities, electricity markets or commercial management.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to evaluate complex commercial opportunities.
  • Excellent analytical skills with advanced Microsoft Excel capability.
  • Comfortable interrogating financial models, assessing project economics and undertaking commercial sensitivity analysis.
  • Financial modelling experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of UK and/or Irish electricity markets, renewable support schemes and route-to-market structures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving ability and the capacity to manage multiple commercial workstreams simultaneously.
