Interim Head of Development UK & Ireland

Job Description
This fixed term role will be responsible for the overall operation and management of the development team in UK & Ireland. The key focus will be on driving business success and having a strategic role in leading all development of projects for Elgin Energy within the UK and Irish markets.  
The role will work closely with and support the CDO to develop strategy, set budget, qualify opportunities and deliver project activities, ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of Elgin Energy. 

What you will do:
  • Oversee and manage the UK&I development team in the delivery of utility-scale solar PV and storage projects from site origination through to construction handover, with a focus on managing risk, maximising project throughput and driving commercial value
  • Develop and deliver market strategy, achieving success while demonstrating effective budget management 
  • Have a deep understanding of project fundamentals and risks and advise on each at company decision making forums/steering committees. 
  • Engagement with key external and internal stakeholders in the full development process and management of the UK development team on all project matters relating to development including land, planning, grid connection and project risks.
  • Responsibility for ensuring clear, effective, and continuous communication on all UK&I development activities across the legal, finance, technical, operational and commercial workstreams. 
  • Motivate and empower the senior development managers and the development team to take ownership and make decisions in their roles. 
  • Define and communicate team objectives/company KPIs to drive a team purpose. 
  • Ensure operational efficiency and productivity by streamlining internal and external processes and procedures across the company’s project pipeline. 
  • Reporting to the ELT regularly including development strategy, project pipeline, project risks, investment/divestment risks, project cash flow management and preparation of budget proposals and ensuring the ELT are kept fully abreast of any significant developments. 
  • Driving Innovation and optimising each asset with respect to design, grid, planning, land etc through financial analysis and modelling of each project.
  • Provide knowledge and support to the development team across the full development cycle including the identification and assessment of new opportunities. 
Your profile
  • Undergraduate degree in business, engineering,professional servicesor equivalent.
  • 6+years' experience working, ideallycoming from development, technical/engineering, professionalservicesor consultancy background. 
  • Proven backgroundin leading teamsinthedevelopmentof aninternational pipeline of quality projectswith experienceacross the full development cycle through land acquisition and investment through to permitting and ready to build stages.
  • Strong commercial knowledge including PPAs and a proven ability in risk management and contractual negotiations.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, be a ‘big picture’ thinker and ability to engage, lead, build and motivate a team.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of renewable energy project development, stakeholdermanagementand experience in reporting to executive management teams.
  • Experience in a project management role with a proventrack recordof managing inputs from a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Understanding of the importance of environmental and social responsibilities and a proven ability to weave this into your team’s objectives
