Job Description
The Role:Elgin Energy is accepting applications for our 2025 Graduate Programme
The successful graduate would be expected to start in September 2025.
Our Electrical Engineering Graduate Programme provides an intensive 18-month learning journey with the Electrical Design Team. The programme aims to give you experience across all areas of Electrical Design and Engineering, preparing you for the role of Electrical Design Engineer.
What you will do:- Apply your electrical engineering knowledge to undertake detailed electrical design for the connection of interface substation assets to connect utility scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to high voltage distribution networks.
- Work in collaboration with construction team and contractors to ensure designs are executed safely and correctly.
- Develop skills to undertake detailed technical simulations and power system studies to demonstrate compliance with network operator requirements.
- Develop and foster close working relationships with distribution network operators to collaborate and negotiate on grid connection options, costs, and timelines.
- Support, and learn from, Senior Engineers in the creation of high quality design packages from concept design through to construction.
- Manage relationships with suppliers and assist in the specification and procurement of critical equipment.
- Manage a database of grid connection costs for primary, secondary, and auxiliary electrical equipment associated with the connection of solar PV and BESS projects.
- Progressively establish sound engineering standards, systems and procedures for Elgin Energy’s electrical engineering and grid connection activities.
- Stay abreast of latest industry developments relevant to grid connections in the policy, industry standards and technologies.
Your profile
What you will need:- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Technical understanding of the operation of high voltage electricity grids.
- Knowledge of the technical characteristics of utility scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of HV substations and related equipment along with power system studies & protection design is desirable
- Knowledge of a AUTOCAD software.
- Strong time management, organisational and report writing skills.
