Job Description
Elgin Energy is seeking a Quality Engineer to join our engineering team. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality in our PV and storage portfolio. The Quality Engineer will oversee quality assurance processesdrive continuous improvement initiatives, and set out and implement a path to the relevant ISO standards for the company.

As a Quality Engineer at Elgin Energy, you'll collaborate closely with local Project Engineers, Project Managers, and the Construction, Pre-Construction, and Development teams. You'll be instrumental in setting and maintaining quality standards, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. Your role will also involve working with internal and external stakeholders to assess and improve quality across all projects.

Possessing hands-on quality assurance and field experience, you should have experience in greenfield development and construction of PV and BESS plants. An understanding of the essential equipment for PV and BESS plants is vital. You should also have a strong appreciation for quality control and assurance practices. Your collaborations will span both internal teams and external parties, such as utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and EPC/EBOP/ICP contractors.

What you will do:

  • Assist Project Engineers and the Construction and Development departments with quality assurance and control issues.
  • Develop and implement quality management systems and processes for PV and BESS projects.
  • Set out and implement a path to achieve and maintain relevant ISO standards, such as ISO 9001, for the company.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support through all stages of project development and construction, ensuring quality standards are met from conceptual design to project completion.
  • Prepare and review quality documentation, including quality plans, inspection and test plans, quality control procedures (QCP), and audit reports.
  • Promote standardisation in PV and BESS quality management practices to improve efficiency and reduce defects.
  • Evaluate and approve quality-related documentation and submissions from contractors and suppliers.
  • Provide technical assistance during project development and ensure quality considerations are integrated into all phases of the project.
  • Draft quality control procedures (QCP) as an internal standard to benchmark contractors’ submissions against.
  • Review contractors’ Project Quality Plans, Quality Control Plans, and Project Quality Procedures to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and ISO standards.
  • Coordinate with Owner’s Engineer site engineers for any quality issues related to design and construction.
  • Ensure quality-related elements of contracts are reviewed and adequately performed.
  • Support the team in preparation of all required quality procedures and documents.
  • Provide periodical analysis of quality (NCs - Non-Conformities, complaints, and lessons learned).
  • Monitor adequate close-out of NCs - Non-Conformities and events. Provide feedback on major problems, ensure corrective actions, and ensure a proactive approach to prevent mistakes.

Your profile
What you will need:
  • A minimum BEng qualification in Engineering or a related field.
  • Ideally 3 years’ experience in quality assurance and control, with at least 2 years spent on quality management in the PV industry.
  • Experience in quality management systems such as ISO 9001 / 2000.
  • In-depth familiarity with PV and BESS industry components, including modules, inverters, transformers, mounting structures, trackers, etc.
  • Experience in PV or BESS projects in a QA/QC-related role.
  • Experience in PV and BESS plant design optimization targeting the lowest LCOE.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to make decisions in a fast-paced emerging market.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude, determination, and flexibility, able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
About us

Elgin Energy is a full-service, utility scale, solar+storage platform bringing projects from origination through to energisation. Elgin is active across the project lifecycle from project origination through to construction management and operational asset management. The company has over 12GW of solar and storage projects across our three key markets of the UK, Australia, and Ireland.

As of 2022, Elgin Energy agreed to sell the UK’s largest solar PV transaction to date consisting of a portfolio of 12 projects with a combined capacity of 519MW of projects including 70MW of collocated energy storage capacity to Scottish Power Renewables (UK) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of global utility Iberdrola Group.

In 2021, Elgin Energy secured financing with Berenberg Green Energy Fund for the development of solar PV projects totalling 1.36GW in the UK and Ireland and also raised £25 million via Focus Capital Partners to fund its growth strategy across its core markets. In 2020, the company partnered, in separate transactions, with both Foresight Group and Metka-EGN in relation to two portfolios to deliver a total of 276MW of UK solar development projects and was successful with two Irish solar projects in Ireland’s first solar auction, RESS-1 – Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS). In addition to the above, Elgin Energy delivered 21 solar projects, totalling 230MW, before the UK Government’s Renewables Obligation (ROCs) scheme ended in 2017.

Elgin Energy works with long-term strategic partners to deliver projects to the energization and provides asset management services through their operational life. The company has expanded internationally over the last 14 years with a professional team of engineers, accountants, and lawyers located in its London, Dublin, and Sydney offices. Elgin has a 98% success rate through planning across all its markets.
