Job Description
Elgin Energy is a full-service, utility scale, solar+storage developer bringing projects from origination through development. The company has a portfolio of projects in late-stage development totalling 6GW solar + 3GW storage across our three key markets of the UK, Australia, and Ireland. 
 
In 2022, Elgin Energy launched an Asset Management business and a Trading and Optimisation business for Solar, Storage and Solar+Storage. Elgin’s ambition is to build on the success of its development business and become the Green Utility of the future with the in-house capabilities to build, own, operate and manage large scale renewables infrastructure.
The purpose of the Risk Analyst is to run, maintain, and build Risk reports and manage data to provide detailed reports and present strategic business recommendations.

The Role:
  • Develop, own, run and maintain the portfolio positions reports
  • Develop, own, run and maintain short and long term portfolio demand and generation forecasting tools and maintain the required static and industry data
  • Develop, own, run and maintain the energy market and GM risk metrics (mtm, Var, etc) analytical tools and reports
  • Develop, own, run and maintain external reporting on behalf of clients
  • To perform adhoc analysis on large data sets to support impact analysis and business decision making.
  • Detect, investigate and resolve all an anomalous results, breaches of policies or limit
  • Own and drive the modelling improvement across the team, either through developing, coaching or supporting others
  • Identify, own, control and mitigate the Operational Risks within the team
  • Contribute to the introduction of new pricing, risk modelling and similar systems into the Elgin platform through requirements building, details design, testing and implementation support
Your profile
What you will need:
  • A degree in business, economics, finance, computer science, engineering or related technical field.
  • 2-years+ Experience in energy market risk management and portfolio forecasting
  • Strong excel and VBA experience
  • Experience of SQL/R/Python beneficial
  • High numeric competency and analytical skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Motivated to learn, develop, innovate, with a drive to improve models and modelling techniques
  • Operates in an open, honest manner showing the utmost of integrity
  • Willing to contribute to team discussions and debates, sharing their opinions in a constructive and collaborative manner
  • Takes responsibility and ownership of completing work to the required standard.
  • In addition, any of the following would be a bonus:
    1. Energy trading experience.
    2. Strong knowledge of the operations, rules, infrastructure and key players of the UK, Australian or Irish markets.
    3. Knowledge of the drivers of ex-ante and real-time power and ancillary services market prices and the opportunities they create for assets operating within.
  • To succeed in this role, will require an ambitious, self-motivated person with a passion for business growth and solar development. The drive to also work in a fast-paced organisation where there is an environment of change, complexity, and multi-functional stakeholders

Elgin Energy is a full-service, utility scale, solar+storage platform bringing projects from origination through to energisation. Elgin is active across the project lifecycle from project origination through to construction management and operational asset management. The company has over 12GW of solar and storage projects across our three key markets of the UK, Australia, and Ireland.


As of 2022, Elgin Energy agreed to sell the UK’s largest solar PV transaction to date consisting of a portfolio of 12 projects with a combined capacity of 519MW of projects including 70MW of collocated energy storage capacity to Scottish Power Renewables (UK) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of global utility Iberdrola Group.

In 2021, Elgin Energy secured financing with Berenberg Green Energy Fund for the development of solar PV projects totalling 1.36GW in the UK and Ireland and also raised £25 million via Focus Capital Partners to fund its growth strategy across its core markets. In 2020, the company partnered, in separate transactions, with both Foresight Group and Metka-EGN in relation to two portfolios to deliver a total of 276MW of UK solar development projects and was successful with two Irish solar projects in Ireland’s first solar auction, RESS-1 – Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS). In addition to the above, Elgin Energy delivered 21 solar projects, totalling 230MW, before the UK Government’s Renewables Obligation (ROCs) scheme ended in 2017.
